Meinl Sonic Energy Wind Gong 12" WG-TT12

Meinl Sonic Energy Wind Gong 12" WG-TT12

Compact in size yet rich in character, the Meinl Sonic Energy 12" Wind Gong is traditionally handcrafted in China from a special bronze alloy. Its almost-flat profile allows the gong to respond freely, producing a broad tonal spectrum with sustained resonance and evolving overtones.

Also known as a Feng or Sun Gong, the Wind Gong responds dynamically to the way it is played. Gentle strokes bring forward its lower tonal character, while increased playing intensity opens the gong into brighter, wave-like overtones and a more complex wash of sound.

Sound & Use

The 12" Wind Gong offers a responsive, expressive voice that can move from focused low tones into shimmering layers of resonance.

Its relatively compact size makes it particularly approachable for personal sound exploration and smaller spaces while retaining the evolving tonal character associated with traditional Wind Gongs.

Suitable for:

• Meditation and relaxation
• Sound baths and sound practice
• Yoga and breathwork environments
• Percussion and musical exploration
• Recording and creative performance
• Personal resonance and listening practice

Why Choose a 12" Wind Gong?

At 30cm in diameter, this is a compact entry into the distinctive sound world of Wind Gongs.

The smaller format is easy to position, transport and incorporate into an existing percussion or frequency-instrument setup. It is also a practical choice for players looking to explore gong technique and resonance without immediately moving to a substantially larger instrument.

As playing intensity changes, the gong reveals different layers of its voice — from softer, lower tones to increasingly complex and wave-like overtones.

Traditional Wind Gong Construction

Meinl Sonic Energy Wind Gongs are traditionally handcrafted in China using a special bronze alloy.

Unlike gongs with a pronounced rim, the Wind Gong has an almost-flat profile. This allows the instrument to vibrate freely across its surface, contributing to its broad tonal spectrum, long sustain and characteristic response.
